Amish White Bread

This easy-to-use recipe will give you soft and light breadcrumbs. This bread fits well with simple, thrifty Amish traditions.

*Ingredients :

°2 cups of hot water at 110°F (45°C)
°2/3 cup sugar
°1 1/2 tsp. active dry yeast
°1 1/2 tsp. salt
°1/4 cup vegetable oil
°6 cups of bread flour

*Preparation steps :

Preparation: 20 minutes › Cooking: 40 minutes › Overtime: 1 hour and 30 minutes Rising › Ready: 2 hours and 30 minutes
Melt sugar in hot water & add yeast. We leave it until the sourdough begins to form foam.
Pour the salt and oil into the baking powder, then add the flour 1 cup at a time. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until soft and light. Place the ball in a well-oiled bowl and roll the ball to lubricate it. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough ferment for an hour, until it doubles in size.
Crush the dough with your fist to release the air, knead it for a few minutes and then cut it in half. Shape each half of the dough into a loaf of bread and place in two well-oiled 9 by 15 inch (23 by 38 cm) tins. Let the dough rise for another 30 minutes, or until the dough is no more than 1 inch (2.5 cm) high in the moulds.
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes.

Enjoy !
